Peace and quiet in Ponto do Pargo

Far away from mass tourism, we have 3 houses in Ponto do Pargo, the uttermost west of the island of Madeira. Our houses lie between vineyards, fields and meadows, 3 km from the village of Santo. In Salao you will find a pharmacy, a doctor and dentist, minimarkets, restaurants, the post office and the municipal building with internet access. Also from Salao you can take the bus to Funchal and Porto Moniz.  

By car, it is only 30 minutes to the southern coastal villages of Calheta, Jardim do Mar and Paul do Mar with fishing harbours, pebble and sandy beaches, restaurants and excursions to whales and dolphin viewing.
Closer by, you will find Achada da Cruz with a cable cart to sea and the high plains of the island. To the North is Porto Moniz, which has natural swimming pools in the sea.
Many of the hiking routes can be reached withing 30 minutes by car. You will find the maps of the routes in our houses.
The climate in Madeira is moderate year round, no hot summers or cold winters.  Temperatures seldom go above 27 oC or below 12 oC. Most humid months are from November till March.

Hortensia, privacy

 
There are 3 houses, each with its own character
 
Hortensia is located entirely between the fields with lots of privacy. You are going to a path to get there. An upper floor with terrace and entrance to spacious living and dining area with open kitchen. Below are 2 spacious bedrooms, a small bedroom, bathroom with bath and toilet. There is a double bed, 3 beds and 1 childbed. A sheltered terrace surrounded by a flower garden and organic vineyard.

 

Bougainvillea is located on a quiet road, you park your car in front of the door. The entrance is at the top via a terrace to a spacious living and dining room with open kitchen. An exit to a large sun terrace of 25 m2. Below are 2 large bedrooms with 5 beds and cot. A bathroom with bath and shower and separate toilet. Downstairs is a sheltered terrace with flower garden and organic vineyard

 

Belladonna is next to Bougainvillea with a parking lot next to the entrance. Above is the kitchen with living and dining area and Sun terrace of 15 m2. Downstairs a bedroom with double bed a library a bedroom with 2 beds and child's bed and a bathroom with shower and toilet. A secluded Sun terrace of 15 m2

 

all houses are fully furnished with 4-hob gas stove, microwave, fridge, cooking utensils, cutlery, crockery, sheets, pillowcases, comforters, towels and have a view on the ocean with fantastic sunsets. There is a large collection of videos and DVDs for playback.

In the summer the temperatures are not extreme the nights cool to 19 oC In the winter day temperatures are 14 to 16 oC. The nights cool to 12-14 oC. There are wood-burning stoves and wood to heat the houses pleasant. the rental rates are different in high-to-low and middle season

The kitchens of Belladonna and Bougainvillea are made from the wood of the floors of the chestnut. The wardrobe in Hortensia and Bougainvillea are already 100 years in the houses. Ponta do Pargo is a quiet area with many small-scale agriculture, livestock and wildlife. Levada walks tracks past the houses. Levadas are irrigation channels that are found all over the island. Along here are many hiking routes. In the houses you will find booklets with information. Year round there are flowers in the spring and summer agapanthus, hydrangea, bougainvillea. In autumn and winter Belladonna, aloe vera, Poinsettias. The natural forests are especially Laurel Trees and Tree Heath. The dragon tree (Dracena) and Massoroco are native and unique.
